Maids Head Achieves AA Four Star Silver Award

Celebrating the Four Star Silver Award, left to right: Jonathan Brasnett Finance Controller, Mandy Ames Head Housekeeper, Christine Malcolm General Manager, Selina Morf Commis Chef and Ivan Cuturello Restaurant Supervisor

We are delighted to announce that we have achieved a Four Star Silver Award, for the first time, in our 2018 AA overnight inspection. The Wine Press Restaurant also retained its Two AA Rosettes for culinary excellence.  We are the only hotel in the City of Norwich with a Four Star Silver Award.

The Silver Award is given to highly recommended hotels and was introduced by the AA in 2015.  Our Silver Award was secured thanks to an increase in the AA merit score to 83% and acknowledges the quality of the hotel’s physical attributes.

Christine Malcolm, General Manager said: “The Four Star Silver Award is wonderful recognition of the £2.5 million invested by our owners, the Chaplin family, over the last five years, refurbishing the bedrooms and public spaces to ensure that our historic building meets the expectations of 21st century guests. It is also brilliant news for our staff who work so hard towards our ambition to be known as Norfolk’s finest for hospitality.”

“Our chefs are delighted to retain the Two AA Rosette Award, but are keen to press on and step up to a third rosette. Our next project, which will support the chefs’ ambition, is to fully refurbish the kitchens. Currently at the planning stage, we hope to begin work on the kitchens later this year.”

The AA Inspector’s report stated that:

“Physical attributes remain very positive. Lots of investment has taken place over this last year, with a number of bedrooms and bathrooms at all levels benefiting from complete refurbishment. Refurbishment has been completed to a very high standard , interiors are characterful and chic, yet sympathetic to the traditional features of the building.”

“Dinner continues to be a real highlight of the guest journey. The menu had a strong emphasis on quality produce and appeared to cater well for the clientele. The dishes taken demonstrated skill and flavour balance, were well executed and remain worthy of the current Two AA Rosette Award.”
