Maids Head Success at Norfolk and Suffolk Tourism Awards

Maids Head staff celebrate the Tourism Awards wins Maids Head staff celebrate the Tourism Awards wins

We are celebrating today, having won two awards at the 2019 Norfolk and Suffolk Tourism Awards staged last night at Open in Norwich.

We were delighted to win Best Independent Hotel, along with the Investing in the Future accolade. Our wins at the Tourism Awards follow hot on the heels of last November’s Best Employer win at the Norfolk Business Awards.

Christine Malcolm, General Manager said: “We have been privately owned by the Chaplin family for the last six years. During that time we have embarked on a phased multi million pound renovation programme to ensure that the historic building meets the expectations of 21st century guests. The hotel has continued to trade successfully and grow the business during this period, with a reputation for friendly and professional staff and a burgeoning reputation for the quality of the food in the restaurant. Our success at the Norfolk and Suffolk Tourism Awards is wonderful acknowledgement for all our hard work.”

Judges Comments – Best Independent Hotel

Quite apart from its remarkable history as the oldest hotel in the UK, we were particularly impressed with the programme of staff training and development, which is reflected in the level of service delivered by every team member, and the individual touches in the rooms, such as the images of Norfolk in the showers. We were also impressed with the way that the owners have placed the best interests of the hotel over and above, perhaps, the best interests of their wallets – installing a state of the art heating system and ensuring that the age and character of the building always comes first in their development plans.

Judges Comments – Investing in the Future

Working in a building over 800 years old, and the challenges that this brings, the business continues to thrive and invest in the total satisfaction of its discerning clientele. Adding to the unique heritage of this building, the hotel has created a decadence and opulence with individual flair for each bedroom make-over. Clever co-ordinated themes, colours and furniture, ensure each room has real standout and a sense of grandeur throughout. The venue continues its journey of improvements into 2019, with further enhancements and improvements planned to the restaurant and kitchen areas.
