Did you know, Norwich is known as the City of Stories? At the Maids Head, we have plenty of our own.
Here’s a snippet from a recent newsletter…

The Maids Head is proud to announce that it has retained its AA Four Star classification and Silver Star Award following a recent anonymous visit from the AA Inspector. The AA Inspector arrives to stay without warning. They check in for an overnight bed and breakfast stay and book a table for one in the Restaurant for dinner. Not announcing their true identity until checking out in the morning.
For the seventh year running, we are delighted to once again be awarded 4 star silver. General Manager, Christine Malcolm, commented “We really value these visits as they fully endorse everything that our fabulous team strive to achieve”.
We are proud to boast 84 contemporary bedrooms, including four suites and eight junior suites. All rooms have their own unique style and design. Since becoming independent the hotel has invested in the guest’s experience. This has resulted in the Hotel winning Hotel of the Year in the 2026 Suffolk and Norfolk Tourism Awards. Sarah Prior, Deputy Head Receptionist, who has worked at the Maids Head for over 20 years said. “I am incredibly proud to be part of the Maids Head family and I have loved witnessing the refurbishment of our beautiful, award-winning and historic hotel.”
The WinePress Restaurant also proudly retained its 2 AA Rosette award after the Inspector booked a table to dine from the Rosette menu.
The WinePress were also successful in the 2026 Suffolk and Norfolk Tourism Awards winning the Taste of England Award. This award endorses the passion the hospitality team have for championing local suppliers and seasonal produce as well as delivering timeless hospitlaity.
