Lonely Planet recommends East Anglia in it’s big unveil this month.
Our secret is out! We’ve always known how diverse and magnificent our region is. But now, East Anglia has proudly claimed a spot in Lonely Planet’s Top Ten Best Regions in the World to Visit in 2025. Our fabulous region is the only UK location to make the list. This is a real feather in our cap to be recognised by Lonely Planet. It also firmly places East Anglia on the global travel map.
East Anglia proudly takes the 8th spot on a prestigious list of global destinations. It stands shoulder to shoulder with exotic locations like The Terai in Nepal and Chiriqui in Panama.
Lonely Planet Recommends East Anglia and mentions Norwich
The 15th edition of Lonely Planet’s Best in Travel 2025 also features the Top 10 Best Cities and Top 10 Countries. The entry for East Anglia, in the Lonely Planet’s hardback book, features a large image of Norwich. It states, “Norwich, Norfolk’s cultured capital, enjoying theatre, live music, art shows and creative dining”.

Iconic view of the River Wensum
East Anglia offers an amazing variety of experiences to any traveller. Peter Waters, Executive Director of Visit East of England, said, “This region is great to visit all year round, with superb built and natural environments. There are also some unmissable events in Winter and Spring. This includes the spectacular migration of hundreds of thousands of geese and swans and the seal pupping season”.
Stay at the Maids Head and explore the East Anglia
Norwich offers something special to see and do whatever the season. A minimum two night stay at the Hotel is recommended to enjoy the most of your East Anglia experience. This will provide the opportunity to explore not only Norwich, but also the wealth of destinations on it’s doorstep. Plan to visit the rural areas of the Broads National Parks and coastal areas of Horsey and Winterton. Also the RSPB reserves at Strumpshaw and newly opened Loughlin’s Marsh. Alternatively visit Blickling or Holkham Hall, as well as the gardens of East Ruston and the little gem of Plantation Gardens, in the shadow of Norwich’s Roman Catholic Cathedral. The what to see and do list is endless.
